UnCheck Chess is a private, offline chess game for iPhone. It plays two variants: Classic Chess, where you WIN by checkmating your opponent, and UnCheck Chess, where an attacked king wins at the start of its turn and captures are compulsory. Classic Chess is paired with Sage and UnCheck Chess with Jester. Both run their neural search entirely on device.

Quick start

  1. Choose your side. Select White or Black on the setup screen.
  2. Choose your game. Pick Classic Chess with Sage or UnCheck Chess with Jester. In UnCheck, expose your king and force the opponent to leave an attack in place while obeying compulsory captures.
  3. Start the game. Tap a piece, then tap one of its highlighted legal destinations.

Common questions

How do Sage and Jester choose moves?

Difficulty decides how the model forms its opinion: HIGH uses the policy head alone, HIGHER uses 100 search simulations, and HIGHEST uses 400. Each bot uses its highest-ranked legal move under the rules it trained for. These are neural opinions, not claims of perfect chess.

Does the game need internet access?

No. Gameplay and move analysis run entirely on your device. The app has no login, online matchmaking, advertising, analytics, or cloud inference.

Will my game be saved?

Yes. One unfinished game and your setup preferences are kept in the app's private storage on your device. Return to the setup screen to continue that game or start a new one.

How do I change sides, game, or difficulty?

Tap the back arrow during a game. Your current game remains available to continue until you start a new one, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app.

How do I promote a pawn?

Move the pawn to its final rank. The app will ask you to choose a queen, rook, bishop, or knight before completing the move.
